EV Battery Swapping & Charging Infrastructure a Must at all Fuel Stations

In order augment India’s adoption of EVs, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry has emphasized the requirement for battery swapping facilities to work alongside charging infrastructure. Speaking at a consultation meeting last week, he urged for a countrywide approach for dealing with EV infrastructure, envisioning it as a "people’s movement."

Strategies for the development of robust battery charging as well as swapping facilities were explored in the meeting which was co-organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

“All petrol pumps, CNG stations, and similar facilities should integrate battery swapping and charging infrastructure,” said Goyal. He highlighted how this approach could mitigate vandalism issues and ensure equitable access across regions, avoiding undue concentration in specific urban areas.

The meeting united representatives from top organizations in the EV and battery industry and these included, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, SUN Mobility, Ather Energy, Mahindra & Mahindra, TVS Motor Company, Hero MotoCorp, and Bajaj Auto.

Industry stakeholders shared optimistic projections for the battery swapping industry, which is predicted to reach $20 billion by 2030. They likewise called for equality in endowments and motivators for battery-trading EVs to guarantee a level battleground with fixed-battery EV producers.

Innovative advancements were one of the focal point of the discussion and Industry representatives displayed various innovations which include robotics that can replace batteries in only 135 seconds and this would pave the way for faster as well as more efficient solutions.
