G42 and Nvidia to partner on climate technology

Artificial intelligence company G42, based in the United Arab Emirates, announced that they are collaborating with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia to focus on climate technology, ahead of the upcoming visit by the UAE president to the White House.
The company from the Gulf announced that the two companies will collaborate to create AI solutions to improve global weather forecasting accuracy. They will establish an operational base and climate tech lab in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE, under the leadership of government-supported G42, is making substantial investments in AI to assist in reducing its reliance on oil, meanwhile, UAE firms have established multiple agreements with U.S. companies in recent times.
In April, Microsoft revealed a $1.5 billion investment in G42, and this week both companies confirmed they would establish two centers in Abu Dhabi. MGX, a company supported by Abu Dhabi, is becoming a general partner in a $30 billion fund with BlackRock and Microsoft to invest in AI infrastructure.
However, Washington has grown more worried about the UAE and other nations in the Middle East serving as a pathway for sophisticated American AI technology to reach China. Last year, new restrictions were placed on the export of AI chips, requiring a license for their shipment to these nations.
On Monday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, will be visiting Washington. The White House announced that he will have a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden to talk about Middle East regional security matters, as well as advanced technology and AI progress.
