In this new deal, both countries will work together on vital technological developments in key areas like essential minerals, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and telecommunications. Furthermore, the program aims to strengthen collaborations in climate efforts, commerce, innovation, and schooling, as announced by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
"This agreement signifies tangible steps towards addressing future challenges, from AI to essential minerals. Our joint efforts can unlock mutual growth, drive innovation, create jobs, and attract investment," Lammy remarked.
According to the wire report, the two officials committed to strengthening defense and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region during talks with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, his Indian counterpart. India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that they discussed a range of global issues, such as the continuing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Lammy stressed that his trip to India showcases a key goal of the new UK government's foreign policy: reestablishing relations with Europe, especially in regards to environmental efforts and interactions with the Global South.
After winning the July 4 elections in the UK, the Labour Party is focused on resetting and relaunching UK-India relations. This involves restarting formal talks on a free trade deal, a top priority for ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson after the UK left the EU in 2020.
