Qualcomm and C-DOT Sign Pact to Assist Developers and Startups

US Based Chipmaker Qualcomm Technologies has formed a alliance with the government-backed Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) to help India-based developers and startups working on innovative products and use cases.
 
The agreement, signed at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, will provide C-DOT with experience and best practices, cutting-edge technology, intellectual property training, and tools. It will accelerate the development and commercialization of indigenous telecom devices that use Qualcomm wireless solutions and technology for Indian startups, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and academic institutions.
 
Qualcomm and C-DOT will provide access to foundational chip technology and domain specialists, thereby stimulating creativity and assisting them in scaling up their R&D efforts. The declaration comes a day after the Union Cabinet accepted proposals costing ₹1.26 trillion to set up India's first semiconductor fabrication unit by the Tata Group, along with two other chip facilities, including a testing and packaging facility.
 
Tata Electronics and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will construct India's first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, for ₹91,000 crore. Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt. Ltd. will build an assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) plant in Morigaon, Assam, for ₹27,000. CG Power Pvt. Ltd and Japan's Renesas Electronics would invest ₹7,600 crore to establish an ATMP unit in Sanand, Gujarat.
 
“With the government’s push for Design in India coupled with growing adoption of 5G and on device-AI, we see greater scope for innovations," said Savi Soin, senior vice president, and president of Qualcomm India.
