Qualcomm and Google Team Up to Bring AI Voice Tech to Automakers

Qualcomm, a top semiconductor company in the US, announced a collaboration with Google from Alphabet to provide chips and software for automakers to create their own AI voice assistants by using technology from both companies. The firm's chips have been used in mobile phones running Google's Android OS for a while now, and the company has also entered the automotive industry by developing chips for car dashboards and autonomous driving systems used by General Motors and other companies.

Qualcomm announced a collaboration with Google to develop a compatible version of Android Automotive OS for Qualcomm processors. Although many consumers know about Google's Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which show phone apps on a vehicle's screen when connected, Google's Android Automotive OS is a tool used by automakers to run a vehicle's computing systems.

Qualcomm and Google announced that car manufacturers can utilize their collaboration and Google's AI technology to develop personalized voice assistants for cars that don't need to be connected to a driver's mobile device.
